Bodycam footage shows moment Reno police shoot down gunman who killed 3 outside Reno casino
Startling, newly released video shows the moment cops shot a deranged mass shooter who killed three people and wounded three others outside of a Nevada casino last month.
The heart-racing body-cam footage, published Tuesday by the Reno Police Department, shows officers draw their guns and take out 26-year-old Dakota Hawver after he opened fire on police as they pulled into the Grand Sierra Resort parking lot on July 28.

“Put the gun down!” one Reno cop screams, firing several shots at the suspect as bullets hit a police cruiser in the nerve-wracking exchange.
Shells can be seen flying through the air and hitting the pavement as another officer unloads his clip on Hawver, who dives behind a large semi-truck for cover.
Cops trade more gunfire with Hawker — who fired at least 80 rounds — before an officer yells “cease fire,” according to the clip.
“He’s down,” one cop says of the mass shooter, who later died.
Footage from another officer’s bodycam shows police sprinting, guns drawn, to Hawver who collapsed in a pool of his own blood behind the truck after he was struck by police.
“The gun’s right here,” one cop says as he retrieves the weapon.
Hawver was arrested and rushed to a local hospital, where he died on July 30, police said.
Hawver started shooting seemingly at random with a 9 mm handgun near the valet parking lot of the popular Reno casino around 7:30 a.m.
Two of the victims, Justin Aguila and Andrew Canepa, both 33, were waiting for a car to the airport after celebrating a bachelor party when they were shot dead from behind, cops said.
Reno resident Angel Martinez was also shot and killed by the suspect as he drove through the parking lot, according to police.
Three others were wounded in the rampage, during which Hawver fired at least 80 rounds.
Reno Police said they arrived at the scene in two-and-a-half minutes after they received a report of an active shooter.
The patrol vehicle seen in the bodycam footage was hit four times — twice on the windshield, once in the right passenger tire causing it to deflate, and another in the bumper, according to police.
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, per department protocol.
Hawver had no connection to his victims and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
He has no criminal history, no history of mental illness and the gun he used was purchased legally two years ago, police said.
