The ruthless rodent has attacked at least five people, including neighbor Isabel Campoy, who said the squirrel launched itself at her face while she was strolling in the Bay Area city of Lucas Valley last week, according to abc7.com.
“She almost killed me,” Campoy said. “The squirrel went from the floor [and] tried to jump up to my face.”
“I was full of blood and I ran to the emergency room,” she said.
The vicious varmint left her with bruises and bloody gashes so deep on her forearm, she had to be treated at a nearby hospital, she said.
The squirrel also pounced on elderly neighbor Joan Heblack, clawing and biting her leg while she was out for a morning walk, she said.
“It clamped onto my leg. The tail was flying up here,” Heblack said, gesturing to her chest.
“I was like, ‘Get it off me, get off me!’,” she said. “It came out of nowhere. I didn’t see him running up to me at all.”
Neighbors believe the ferocious, golden-colored furball is the culprit in at least three more attacks — and have since posted a flyer warning about the aggressive animal.
“Attack squirrel beware!!!!!!!!” the flyer declares, with eight exclamation points. “This is not a joke.”
An expert told the station the critter is likely being territorial while hunting for food, or was possibly cared for by people in the past.
“They will look for food. If they don’t get it, there can be frustrations. They can be territorial of their space,” Vanessa Potter from WildCare in San Rafael.”If they associate people with food, they’re not afraid of them.”
There has been no sign of the sadistic squirrel in the past several days, and residents are hoping it’s gone for good, the station reported Monday.
In a nutshell, neighbors said, the whole thing has been frightening.
“[It was] very scary,” Heblack said.
