Bills eyed Quinnen Williams, Jaylen Waddle before NFL trade deadline

After the trade deadline passed without an upgrade, Bills GM Brandon Beane told reporters he went home as “mad as any other fan.”

Buffalo was silent at Tuesday’s trade deadline but not entirely by choice. The Bills reportedly attempted to swing deals for both Quinnen Williams and Jaylen Waddle and were not able to complete deals with the Jets and Dolphins, respectively.

“Unfortunately, it takes two to tango, and we tried on quite a few,” Beane said this week, according to ESPN. “And a lot was just, yeah, we’re not moving, and some was, we ran into a couple teams in our division were trading and couldn’t get a lot of interest there.”

This weekend added more clarity to the roadblocks he had reached.

According to NFL Network, the Bills were involved in the Williams sweepstakes but did not win out. The Jets instead sent their star defensive tackle to the Cowboys for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

It is unclear how much the Bills offered for Williams, but it would be understandable if the Jets did not want to assist a rival trying to win its sixth straight AFC East title.

The Bills may have tried harder for Waddle, and NFL Network reported that the Bills offered the largest package for a receiver being wasted with the two-win Dolphins.

According to the report, Beane’s offer included a first-round pick in 2027 and a third-round pick in 2026 for a wideout who could have become instant help for Josh Allen. The Dolphins wanted a 2026 first-rounder, which did not materialize. Waddle remains with the Dolphins.

The Bills could not expect much help from their division rivals and received none.
