Bengals sticking with Zac Taylor after third straight playoff miss
The Bengals are sticking with their head coach.
After a disappointing 6-11 season, during which Joe Burrow missed nine games with a toe injury, Zac Taylor will return for an eighth season with Cincinnati, the team announced Monday. Director of player personnel Duke Tobin, who is running football operations without a GM title, will also return, with owner Mike Brown calling Taylor and Tobin “the right leaders to guide us forward.”

“They have proven they can build and lead teams that compete for championships. We trust their plans and expect to return to our desired level of success,” Brown said in a statement after the Bengals missed the playoffs for the third straight season.

During Taylor’s tenure, Cincy has reached the playoffs twice in seven years, guiding the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance during the 2021 season and the AFC title game in 2022.
However, they struggled this season after winning their first two games of the year and then losing 10 of their next 12 contests.
Reports had surfaced during the season that Taylor had been under contract through the 2027 season as part of an extension he had signed following the Bengals’ 2022 run to the AFC Championship game.
“I don’t think it really matters,” Taylor had told reporters in December about his contract. “I coach every day like it’s my last, and I’ve been through years in 2019 and 2020 that were literally you coach every game thinking it could be your last game, and I’ve seen how we responded after that. In 21-22 compete for division titles and championships, and so this year is no different. For me, it’s going through adversity coaching every game in this profession like it could be your last one.”
Taylor’s tenure has been marked by injuries to Burrow, who was dealt season-ending blows in 2020 and 2023 and had missed a significant amount of this past season due to a turf toe issue.
Prior to arriving in Cincinnati, Taylor’s previous coaching stops included Texas A&M, the Dolphins, the University of Cincinnati and the Rams.

Taylor had taken over the Bengals after the organization mutually parted ways with longtime head coach Marvin Lewis, who was there from 2003-18.
The Bengals have the No. 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
