The sequel is set to be released on Oct. 1, 2027, the company stated.
In addition, the shareholder letter revealed that James Gunn is writing the next film in the “Super family” following the success of his “Superman” remake.
“The Batman,” directed by Matt Reeves, came out in March 2022 and grossed over $770 million worldwide.
Pattinson, 39, portrayed the Dark Knight alongside Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
The sequel, which will again star Pattinson, has been pushed back multiple times, most recently from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027.
In June, Reeves, 59, confirmed on Instagram he finished the script for the sequel.
That same month, Gunn, who is the new head of DC Studios with his longtime producer Peter Safran, defended the film’s delayed release in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it,” said Gunn, 59. “That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”
Gunn went on to say that he’s “irritated” with fans hounding Reeves to speed up the process of making the sequel.
“I mean, it’s just that thing people don’t need to be entitled about,” he told EW. “It’s going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt’s not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.”
Pattinson weighed in on the drama during an interview with Hero magazine in March, sharing he’s concerned he’ll be too “f—king old” to be Batman by the time they start shooting.
“I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f–king old Batman by the sequel,” the actor stated.
Since “The Batman” came out, Pattinson was in Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi film “Mickey 17” and filmed Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic “The Odyssey.” He will also be in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three.”
Despite being called “woke” by some social media users, Gunn’s “Superman” starring David Corenswet has performed well at the box office, boasting over $500 million worldwide since its July 11 release. The action flick also got positive reviews from critics.
Gunn recently told EW that he’s working on a follow-up to “Superman,” adding, “But is it a straight-up ‘Superman’ sequel? I would not say necessarily.”
The next movie in the new DC Universe is “Supergirl” starring “House of the Dragon” actress Milly Alcock. Craig Gillespie is directing the film, which is set for release on June 26, 2026. It will be followed by “Clayface” starring Tom Rhys Harries, which comes out Sept. 11, 2026.
“Superman” came out around the same time as Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” which has performed notably worse at the box office. The film, starring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, suffered a 66% second weekend drop. “Superman,” meanwhile, only saw a 53% drop in its second weekend.
