Atlanta police officer kills girlfriend in murder-suicide at Georgia home as friends frantically call 911 after finding bodies

A Georgia police officer allegedly shot his girlfriend dead before turning the gun on himself — as worried friends discovered the couple’s bodies days after they were last seen at a Christmas party.
Authorities were called to the northeast Atlanta home of Atlanta police officer Kevin Stroner, 56, on Dec. 28 following a disturbing 911 call reporting a gruesome discovery, 11Alive reported.

Friends went to Stroner’s home after losing contact with the couple following a Christmas Day party, where one of them spotted Stroner and his 44-year-old girlfriend, Moriah Cardona, lying on the bedroom floor through a window and not moving.
After the 911 operator connected the call to an EMS dispatcher, the man who found the pair said he saw two bodies on the floor with a gun between them.
“There are two dead bodies in the back bedroom,” he told the operator, sounding shaken. “There’s blood everywhere, and there’s one gun between the two of them.”
“I’m not gonna speculate anything, but I don’t know — they’re not f–king moving at all,” he added.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Tuesday that Cardona’s death was a homicide and that Stroner died by suicide from a gunshot wound, CBS News reported.
Both Cardona and Stroner were dead when officers arrived at the home to conduct a welfare check.
Deputy Chief Prenzinna Spann said no one else was inside the home and that they were unaware Stroner — a 13-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department — was a police officer when they were dispatched.
Authorities stressed the shooting was an isolated incident with no danger to the public and said they are still working to determine what led to the murder-suicide. The case remains an active death investigation.
Neighbors said the tragedy left the Atlanta suburb shaken, with residents questioning what could have led up to the deadly violence.
They revealed that Stroner was a “great neighbor, but an even better guy,” 11Alive reported.
In 2012, he was recognized by the department for assisting in the arrest of an accused robber and for earlier stopping an armed robbery at a Family Dollar, according to Atlanta police.
Stroner also received a commendation for helping arrest an accused robber in December 2020.
As for Cardona, neighbors said they didn’t know her well. A friend of the 44-year-old, who declined to be interviewed on camera, described her as a “beautiful person,” 11Alive reported.
