Art teacher allegedly filmed himself stabbing people on Halloween

A deranged art teacher allegedly filmed himself stabbing three people — killing one of them — just hours after he had been giving out Halloween candy to trick-or-treaters, according to authorities

Matthew Regnier, a 33-year-old instructor at Monument Academy in El Paso County, was found “fully naked and bloodied” and holding a 2-year-old child when police responded to a domestic dispute call at a home in Colorado Springs on Friday night.

The young child was “present, watching and crying” the horrific attack, according to an affidavit.

Police found three people with severe stab wounds at the residence — including the 2-year-old child’s uncle, who died from his wounds in the hospital. Two women were treated for life-threatening injuries.

The victims’ relationship to Regnier was not clear in charging documents obtained by KKTV.

Just hours earlier, he was handing out candy, neighbors told KRDO.

Regnier claimed that he stabbed the trio with a buck knife in “self-defense,” calling it a “three-on-one assault” without suggesting why the others would attack him.

However, cell phone footage shot in “selfie mode” shows him screaming about being choked, but clearly free to move before the disturbing clip showed victims screaming as blood splattered the white bedroom walls, the affidavit said.

Cops were called to the same home on Sept. 26 where they interviewed a woman who told cops she “intended to file for [redacted]” from Reginier, according to the affidavit.

Regnier was an art teacher at Monument Academy, according to Lewis Palmer School District officials.

He also served as a junior varsity soccer coach at Palmer Ridge High School, but has since been fired. The district said it is cooperating with investigators.

“This news is heartbreaking for our entire school community,” Collin Vinchattle, Executive Director of Monument Academy said in a statement.

“The safety, well-being, and trust of our students, families, and staff are our top
priorities. We are focused on providing care and support to those who may be affected.”
