AOC pleads with supporters to donate to NY AG Letitia James after federal indictment

Firebrand New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quickly urged her supporters to throw some bucks to State Attorney General Letitia James Thursday to “fight back” against her federal indictment.

The lefty congresswoman sent out an email asking for donations for James, claiming the Democrat was being unfairly attacked by President Trump after she was charged with mortgage fraud.

“Letitia isn’t backing down, and we need to support her in this critical moment. Her campaign set a goal to receive 20,000 contributions before midnight to fight back,” AOC’s email read.

“If you can, will you rush a donation to Letitia James right now?” the pitch said. “Your donation will send a powerful message that you’re standing in solidarity with Letitia as Trump manipulates the Department of Justice.”

The email linked to an “ActBlue” fundraising page, but it wasn’t immediately clear where the money was going to, whether to James’ campaign or a legal defense fund.

Ocasio-Cortez labeled the link to the fundraising page the “Letitia James Legal Fund” in an Instagram story she separately put up asking for help for the embattled AG.

“The charges are completely baseless,” she said in the fundraising email. “This is a dangerous escalation of Trump going after those who hold him accountable.”

A legal defense fund for James was started by the national group Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) late last month.

The state’s chief law enforcement officer was hit Thursday with a federal indictment in Virginia charging her with bank fraud and lying to a financial institute.

James, who is set to make her first court appearance in the case October 24, has denied the charges, claiming Trump is playing politics and targeting her — a sentiment echoed by Dem allies.

The president and James have long been bitter rivals dating back to his first term office.

Her office successfully sued him for inflating the value of the Trump Organization, though the massive fine he was initially hit with was tossed on appeal in August.

Legal experts told The Post there is no explicit ban on politicians in New York transferring campaign cash to legal defense funds. But a James spokesperson said the AG, who is running for re-election next year, will be using the DAGA legal fund to cover her defense.

An email to Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign was not immediately returned.

“We stand with her, New Yorkers love this woman, I love this woman,” Ocasio-Cortez said on social media about James.
