Anthony Davis might not need surgery after all in Mavericks injury twist
Anthony Davis and the Mavericks appeared to catch a bit of a break on Tuesday.
Davis will not need surgery on his left hand after receiving a second opinion from specialist Dr. Steven Shin, and he’ll be reevaluated in six weeks, ESPN reported.

While the new prognosis seems like better news, Davis could still be sidelined for eight or more weeks, according to the Tuesday report.

The Mavs star injured his left hand during Thursday’s game against the Jazz when he was defending Lauri Markkanen.
ESPN initially reported that he was expected to undergo surgery to repair ligament damage and that he would miss the rest of the regular season, but Davis appeared to push back on the report in a post on social media.
“Y’all better stop listening to these lies on these apps!” he posted on X on Tuesday, taking to the social media platform for the first time since July 19, 2025.
The post didn’t directly address whether Davis was referring to the injury news or the mention that the Mavericks had renewed trade talks related to Davis.
Davis has dealt with a number of injuries since he was traded to the Mavericks as part of the earth-shattering deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers last February. He’s appeared in just 29 regular season games for Dallas since his arrival.
The 32-year-old has played in 20 games this season, averaging 20.4 points per game, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks. The Mavericks are 15-25, but only 3 1/2 games out of a play-in spot.
