Anthony Davis likely out extended period in Mavericks crusher

Anthony Davis is going down with an injury — once again.

The oft-sidelined Mavericks big man sustained ligament damage in his left hand and could miss “a number of months,” according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, if surgery is required.

The team announced that Davis is “currently seeking multiple opinions” on the injury.

Even without surgery, Davis is expected to miss at least six weeks.

The latest Davis injury comes as the Mavericks were shopping the 10-time All-Star on the trade market ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline — less than a year after the shocking deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers and Davis to Dallas.

Earlier this week, NBA insider Chris Haynes said Davis was “a guy rival executives expect to be on the move” before the trade deadline.

Haynes connected Davis to the Hawks, specifically, who cleared up their cap situation by dealing Trae Young to the Wizards earlier this week.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported earlier this week that Davis’ “preference would be to stay in Dallas,” although he is seeking an extension that the Mavericks may not be willing to give him.

Davis is currently under contract through next season with a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

But the injury, which seems almost definitely will take him out through the deadline, complicates a possible trade.

In his debut with the Mavs last February, Davis suffered a left adductor strain, which took him out for a month and a half.

This season, Davis has played in just 20 games, missing time with groin and calf injuries.

All in all, he’s played in just 29 regular season games as a Maverick.

When on the court this season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
