Andrew Rannells listed his NYC home because he’s living in LA

Grammy-winning actor Andrew Rannells recently listed his Chelsea triplex for $2.39 million, but he actually said goodbye to the Big Apple some time ago.

Rannells told Gimme Shelter he now lives in Mid-City, a neighborhood in central LA, with his partner, the actor Tuc Watkins, and Tuc’s twin children.

“I started going back and forth to LA in 2013,” Rannells said. “Tuc and I started dating in 2019 and that’s when I really started spending a lot of time out here outside of work.”

But, he added, he isn’t abandoning New York for long — especially if the right project comes along.

“I could never fully leave New York,” he said. “I love it here too much. I just find myself in Los Angeles more these days with work and my family so it seems like the right time to make a change, as much as it pains me to leave this beautiful apartment. I will definitely be looking for another place here, most likely someplace that is close to the Broadway theaters. I can never stray too far from Broadway.”

The Chelsea listing was first reported by the New York Times.

The 1,400-square-foot triplex is inside a historic building at 443 W. 24th St. that dates to 1850. The four-story Greek Revival building is in between Ninth and Tenth avenues, near the High Line.

Rannells paid $2.1 million for the two-bedroom co-op in 2018. It was his first New York real estate purchase, which he made following the six-season success of the Lena Dunham’s still-talked-about HBO show, “Girls.”

The apartment comes with a hardwood floors, a decorative fireplace and a 140-square-foot terrace, where Rannells often wrote while enjoying his morning coffee.

Rannells is also an author, who penned the 2019 memoir, “Too Much Is Not Enough.” He has also published essays in the New York Times’ Modern love and Opinion sections. As a talented actor, he is also the originator of the Kevin Price role in “The Book of Mormon” on Broadway and has co-starred in the “A Simple Favor” movies with Blake Lively.

Climb two sets of stairs in the brownstone, and the triplex opens into an elegant entertaining space with a living and dining area adorned with built-in bookcases and three large windows. There’s also an open chef’s kitchen with white marble counters and an oversized porcelain farmhouse sink.

The second floor hosts a den that can convert to become an additional bedroom with built-in bookcases. This floor also has another bedroom with a walk-in closet, a marble bath and a washer/dryer.

The third floor features the main bedroom suite, with a walk in closet and an ensuite spa-like bath with wall-to-wall skylights.

The listing broker is Corcoran’s Michael Russell, who is a friend of Rannells. Russell shares the listing with fellow Corcoran brokers Caroline Holl and Stephen Geller.
