‘And Just Like That’: Andy Cohen Finally Returns as ‘Sex and The City’ Shoe Salesman Daniel

And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 9 “Present Tense” culminates in a massive moment for Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), one with huge implications for the larger Sex and the City universe. No, I’m not talking about what goes down between Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett). I’m referring to how Andy Cohen makes his triumphant return to HBO MAX‘s SATC universe this week!

In And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 9 “Present Tense,” Carrie confronts Aidan about his trust issues, pointing out that he clearly is jealous of her friendship with downstairs neighbor Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake). When tensions flare up, Carrie calms herself down by going for a walk. Where does she end up? Shopping for shoes.

As Carrie considers a very uncharacteristic flat, she’s greeted by shoe salesman Daniel, played none other than Bravo bigwig Andy Cohen.

Now, it’s clear from their brief interaction that Carrie and Daniel go way back and they literally do. Andy Cohen first played a shoe salesman at Barneys in Sex and the City Season 6 Episode 13 “Let There Be Light.” In that episode, Carrie and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) go to the department store so Charlotte can wear an eye mask to experience moving through life as the blind do. (She’s helping the blind!) Carrie is supposed to guide her through the store, but gets distracted when Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov) calls her. Charlotte gets lost without Carrie, but eventually finds her trying on shoes.

However, that was technically not the reality TV titan’s first cameo on SATC. Andy Cohen first appeared on Sex and the City back in Season 4, playing a background extra in a gay nightclub scene. That original cameo has now been excised from the streaming version of the show and is only available on Sex and the City Season 4 DVDs.

And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 9 ultimately blows up Carrie’s rekindled romance with Aidan. Yes, the two split up at the end of the episode. There’s a Taylor Swift needledrop and everything! However, this week’s episode also confirms that Andy Cohen’s shoe salesman is still in Carrie’s life. Oh, and his name is Daniel.

Carrie might not need Aidan in her life, but she’ll always need Daniel.
