Deadline reports the film is currently in pre-production in London and Rome with principal photography slated to start in mid-January.

The film is based on Rice’s 1982 novel of the same name, which follows “two men castrated to ensure their perfect soprano voices” in 18th-century Italy, per the author’s website.

“Guido Maffeo is castrated at age 6 and enters the conservatory. He becomes a star until he loses his voice. When his voice is gone, he becomes a teacher, searching for a boy who can fulfill his lost dream,” reads the novel’s synopsis in part.

The “Someone Like You” hitmaker, 37, will be joined among the cast by Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper and Daniel Quinn-Toye, according to several outlets.

Hunter Schafer, Josephine Thiesen, Thandiwe Newton, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Hauk Hannemann, and Lux Pascal will additionally star.

Ford, 64, penned the screenplay and is attached to direct and produce through his Fade To Black production company.

Instead of working with studios to finance the movie, the former Gucci and YSL creative director has decided to self-finance the film and plans to take it out to market after production has ended, per the outlet.

He certainly has the funds — Ford sold his fashion label to the Estée Lauder company for $2.83 billion in 2023.

“Cry To Heaven” also marks a return to film for the fashion designer after nearly a decade following “Nocturnal Animals,” which won the 2016 Grand Jury prize at the Venice Film Festival, scored nine BAFTA nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.

Taylor-Johnson earned a Golden Globe win for best supporting actor for his part in the 2016 film.

As for Firth, the actor previously received an Oscar nomination and BAFTA win for his portrayal in Ford’s critically acclaimed debut, “A Single Man.”

Adele previously announced she would be taking a break from her music career last year following the end of her Las Vegas residency.

In addition to her several “Saturday Night Live” gigs, the singer has made very little appearances onscreen aside from a cameo on “Ugly Betty” in the early 2000s.
