Aaron Rodgers suffers apparent hand injury before Steelers vs. Colts

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered an apparent hand injury during warmups ahead of the team’s Week 9 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium.

The veteran field general started the game, which began at 1 p.m. ET, but it’s unclear whether the potential injury is impacting his performance, as he was 20-for-28 with 178 yards and a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

The NFL on CBS pregame show revealed footage of Rodgers appearing to injure his throwing hand while taking practice snaps, roughly 30 minutes before kickoff.

The four-time MVP spiked a football in frustration, then showed his pinky to his teammates.

“We have a little bit of breaking news which is interesting,” said Matt Ryan to co-host Tony Romo. “I’m curious, Tony, if this has ever happened to you. Aaron Rodgers, right here, may have injured his hand during warmups.

“I don’t want to speculate, but we’ve all had issues with fingers off of snaps,” he continued.

Rodgers was seen tossing the football after the incident, with Romo adding that the quarterback likely jammed his finger while taking snaps from the backup center.

“That’s probably what happened there and it looks like he’ll be okay,” he said.

While Rodgers ended up taking the field, he wouldn’t have been the first Steelers’ signal caller to injure their pinky on a snap this season.

Rookie quarterback Will Howard missed the entire preseason after fracturing his fifth digit on a freak snap during training camp, and he’s been on the injured reserve ever since.

Considering Pittsburgh’s already depleted quarterback room, the Steelers are depending on Rodgers to lead the charge — especially since he’s put together a solid campaign so far.

The 21-year veteran entered Sunday’s contest, having completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,489 yards and 16 touchdowns, tied for third in the NFL.

The Steelers led 24-7 early in the fourth quarter.
