Off-duty ICE agent gunned down ‘active shooter’ neighbor

A heroic off-duty ICE agent thwarted a possible active shooting by gunning down his neighbor as the man was firing shots into the air at their Los Angeles apartment complex, the feds said.

The agent, who hasn’t been identified publicly, jumped into action when his neighbor opened fire with a rifle at the complex on Roscoe Boulevard in Northridge on New Year’s Eve, according to authorities.

“In order to protect his life and that of others, he was forced to defensively use his weapon and exchanged gunfire with the shooter,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Post in a statement.

“Fortunately, our brave officer was not injured while protecting his community.”

The ordeal unfolded just after 10:30 p.m. when the gunman — described only as a black male in his 30s — suddenly opened fire, authorities said.

The ICE agent quickly fired back and struck the perp, according to police.

The agent immediately called 911 in the wake of the shooting.

The gun-toting neighbor was pronounced dead when cops arrived at the scene, police said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect pointed or fired his weapon at the off-duty agent at any point.

No arrests have been made but the LAPD said it is still probing the ordeal.
