How Lane Kiffin reacted to Ole Miss’ upset of Georgia after skipping game

Lane Kiffin had his eyes glued to the TV during Thursday’s thriller between Ole Miss and Georgia.

Kiffin, who left his post as the Rebels’ head coach to take the LSU job before the College Football Playoff (CFP), posted a picture on family members while his former team pulled off a 39-34 thriller against Georgia to advance to the CFP semifinals.

“What a great finish!!! So much fun!! Only two more to go,” Kiffin captioned the post.

Kiffin opted not to attend the game in person, instead choosing to watch LSU’s women’s basketball team play Kentucky courtside as he dramatically walked into the arena in a slow-motion video alongside coach Kim Mulkey in a joint entrance, as seen in a video posted to social media.

“LSU Is The Place To Be,” the LSU women’s basketball team X page posted on social media.

Kiffin’s post featured shots of his ex-wife Layla Kiffin, son Monte Knox Kiffin and several of his nephews, who are sons of Chris Kiffin, an assistant at Ole Miss, supporting the Rebels against Georgia.

The coach abruptly exited from Ole Miss after the regular season concluded, leaving Pete Golding to take over as the interim coach while Charlie Weis Jr. is the offensive coordinator.

It is unclear who on the staff remain at season’s end.

“Everything has been extremely clear and transparent between myself and Pete Golding through constant communication, including a plan all the way through this historic championship run,” Kiffin told ESPN on Friday morning. “What an amazing night for all Ole Miss players, coaches and fans.”

Kiffin reportedly reached out to ESPN to appear on “College Gameday” or other airwaves, but was seemingly rebuffed and ended up skipping the event altogether.

Ole Miss has now bested Tulane and Georgia in its CFP run and faces Miami on Jan. 8.
