A hero grandfather died after he ran into his burning California home to save his 14-year-old grandson, his heartbroken family said.

Jose Villalta, 69, sprinted into the home in Stockton early Saturday after realizing his grandson was the only one who hadn’t made it out of the inferno.

“Without hesitation, he goes inside. I’ve seen footage of the flames, and they were intense. He got [his grandson] out, and then, he just never came out,” his son, Wilbert Villalta, told Fox10.

The cause of the fire is ongoing, investigators have said.
