BMW driver strikes, kills man crossing NYC street — then runs off on foot: cops


A BMW driver fatally struck a man crossing a Bronx street – and then ditched the wheels and his passenger to leave the scene on foot, cops said. 

Shariq Bryant, 27, was trying to cross East 222nd mid-block around 12:15 a.m. Saturday when the wild 2025 BMW M8 motorist rammed into him while barreling toward the Boston Road intersection in Williamsbridge, authorities said.

Bryant – who lived only a few blocks from the scene – was rushed with severe body trauma to Jacobi Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

In a GoFundMe page, Bryant’s family described him as “truly one of a kind—a warm, caring, and deeply loving soul whose presence made every room brighter.”

“He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and supported,” Bryant’s loved ones wrote on the fundraising page. “Whether sharing a laugh, or simply being his genuine, uplifting self, Shariq touched countless lives. His kindness was effortless, his compassion limitless, and his love for his friends and family undeniable.”

Meanwhile, the reckless driver continued heading east on the same street, before striking a telephone pole at the corner, cops said.

The motorist then jumped out of the car and bolted – leaving his injured front seat passenger alone, authorities said. 

That rider, a 28-year-old man, suffered only minor injuries and was not hospitalized, police said. 

Cops were still looking for the cowardly driver on Monday. 

The deadly hit-and-run just hours after a 68-year-old grandfather was mowed down by a wrong-way moped driver in Queens, police said. 

Trevor Lloyd Samuels, a former correction officer from the island of Jamaica, was struck and killed by the two-wheeled menace as he crossed at the intersection of 93rd Avenue near 168th Street around 6:30 p.m. Friday, cops said. 

The moped driver, Yunio Buleje Rodriguez, 26, also suffered minor injuries and was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.
