Eagles vs. Chargers prediction: ‘Monday Night Football’ picks, odds, prop
A pair of 8-4 teams meet in Week 14 on “Monday Night Football,” as the Philadelphia Eagles look to shake off a losing skid out west against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Philly still sits firmly as the No. 1 seed in a measly NFC East, but two poor performances could be chalked up to a championship hangover or weaknesses being exposed.

Justin Herbert and the Chargers rebounded in Week 13, overpowering their AFC West division rival, the Raiders, at home.
Oddsmakers see this as a very close contest, with the Eagles a slim 1.5-point road favorite and an over/under of 41.5 total points across most books.
Eagles vs. Chargers odds, best bet
It’s no secret that the reigning Super Bowl champions have been all out of sorts, specifically their offensive firepower in critical moments.
Nursing back-to-back losses to the Cowboys and Bears, Nick Siranni’s squad needs a win badly, and it might start with getting their run-game identity back in tact.
Sure, A.J. Brown logging two consecutive games of 110-plus receiving yards and multiple touchdowns is positive, but one key element seems to be missing.
Saquon Barkley is experiencing a very sudden case of the Madden curse. Since the Eagles’ Week 9 bye, Barkley has not scored a touchdown.
Barkley, in this recent four-game stretch, has put up pedestrian numbers of 55.8 yards per contest and 3.1 yards per carry on the ground. Even his pass-catching tendencies have shrunk, averaging only 2.8 catches for 28 yards per game.

The All-Pro is no stranger to the West Coast. Last season, in Week 12 against the Rams, he put up a historic 302 scrimmage yards, with two touchdown runs of 70-plus yards at SoFi Stadium.
Although this is the Chargers and not Rams he’ll be facing, expect Barkley to get his fair share of touches in the Eagles’ rushing attack on Monday. The Chargers rank a respectable 13th against the run, allowing 106.9 yards per week.
Philly’s ability to stop the run was exposed in Week 13 versus the Bears, as D’Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monagai shredded the Eagles to the tune of 255 yards, along with two touchdowns.
If there is any coach who knows the importance of a run game, it’s the Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh. With Omarion Hampton expected to return, he’ll join Kimani Vidal and Jaret Patterson in LA’s backfield.
Vidal has an interesting pattern to his rushing totals: it’s essentially feast-or-famine for the Troy product. Post Thanksgiving, he fixed himself a solid plate, torching Las Vegas for 25 rushes, 126 yards, and a touchdown.

With the anchor of the Eagles’ defensive front, Abdul Carter out, look for Los Angeles to try to mirror what the Bears did.
As talented as their wideout trio of Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, and Quentin Johnston can be, they are often used near the red zone. McConkey and Johnston each caught a pass for six, but neither topped 40 yards receiving in Week 13.
Herbert is also questionable after having surgery on his non-throwing hand earlier in the week. The Chargers are likely to deploy a run-first approach to counter Siranni’s influence on play-calling.
Betting on the NFL?
The Eagles in primetime have been a snoozefest of some sort.
In Week 10, they outlasted Green Bay 10-7 on “Monday Night Football,” and followed that up in Week 11 by beating Detroit 16-7 on “Sunday Night Football.”
Like Philly, the Chargers exude talent against the pass, limiting opponents to just 168.3 yards through the air. All signs point to Jalen Hurts handing the ball off more.
Reed Blakenship, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean are quite the secondary for the Eagles, while Derwin James Jr. and Daiyan Henley wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
Both of these teams also thrive on limiting their opponents’ scoring in the first half.
Entering Week 14, the Eagles allow only 9.8 points before half, while Los Angeles allows only 11.5. In a likely battle of running scripts, I’m also expecting Barkley to lift his Madden curse.
The Plays: Total 1st Half Points 20.5 Under (-110, DraftKings) + Barkley to score a touchdown (+105, FanDuel)
