Two gunmen were captured on CCTV ambushing Hamzy, 44, before fleeing through nearby streets in Sydney’s southwest.

In the trial of a man police alleged was one of the assassins, who was found not guilty, messages uncovered on Hamzy’s encrypted AN0M phone were tendered as evidence.

Mejid Hamzy, the eldest brother in the notorious Hamzy crime family, was shot four times in front of his Condell Park house on October 19, 2020.

They reveal he promised $100,000 for someone to “knock” the major organised crime boss police believe was ultimately behind Hamzy’s death – allegations which were heard in court.

“A fatwa has been passed on him from all the sheiks,” Hamzy wrote in September 2019.

“His a f–ken khara (s–t).”

Hamzy, the court heard, was also intent on seeing offshore gangster Bilal Haouchar “hurt very badly” according to the messages sent to a user dubbed JID.

JID explained that Lebanon-based Haouchar, one of NSW’s most wanted men, was moving between locations but his “detective mate” was “on to it.”

“My detective mate said he can bring him in, rip him a new arsehole, bash the living s–t out of him, put him in a parole system so he knows where he is at one stage,” JID said in a voice message in August 2019.

“I’ve got the boys ready to go, everyone is ready to rip this motherf–ker apart … I can even carve your family name on his chest.”

Hamzy replied, telling JID to let him know “how much” it would cost before adding, “I want the video of the scum”.

A few weeks later, JID sent a voice message saying he had been tracking Haouchar, but his crew had to be “patient” because their target “walks with five boys all the time.”

He spoke about shooting Haouchar in the legs and having “Bassam Hamzy’s (Mejid’s brother) name … carved on his chest or his forehead”.

Hamzy replied: “Don’t forget the videos because I really want to see it done.”

JID then said: “You are going to love the video, and I promise you cuz, I am going to carve Bass Hamzy on this motherf–ker, and I am going to make sure he never walks again in his life.

“This is personal for me.”

On September 7, 2019, Hamzy wrote that he had “spoken to the boys” about the organised crime boss, who can’t be legally named, and they were “willing to pay for his hit,”

He went on to say Haouchar was “getting under my skin” and he wanted to see his “chest carved up and I want him in a wheelchair.”

Hamzy was worried Haouchar would flee if the organised crime boss was killed, and mused it would be better if JID’s crew carried out both plot at the same time.

“I only want a video of Bill getting pumped,” he wrote.

It appeared the plan never came to fruition, with Hamzy asking again in November, “any news on that rat.”

AN0M phones were the encrypted device of choice for the underworld at the time, but criminals did not know all their messages were being collected under an elaborate FBI and Australian Federal Police sting.

A chocolate cafe owner by day, police believed Hamzy was a kingpin in the crime family involving his younger brothers Bassam, Ghassan and other relatives.

At the time of his death, police were investigating him for criminal activities, and he was suspected of involvement in two murder,s including the 2016 slaying of hitman Hamad Assaad.

Allegations heard during the trial of Bryce Mark Williams, who was acquitted of Hamzy’s murder, stated the gangster was killed because the aforementioned major crime boss believed he had stolen a 400kg cocaine shipment.

The Crown alleged this crime boss put a contract on Hamzy’s head before he was gunned down outside his family home.

Williams and his childhood friend Christopher O’Brien faced separate trials over the murder and were both found not guilty.

The juries were told of other theories over who had Hamzy killed, saying many organised crime rivals wanted him dead.

The Crown had alleged Williams, 38, was the man dubbed Mr Blond by police, so named as one of the gunmen’s hood fell to reveal light coloured hair while making his escape.

Williams always denied involvement and was granted bail this week after spending almost four years in custody, after being arrested in 2022.

He is due to be sentenced for an unrelated drug supply matter in 2026.
