Giannis accelerates Bucks trade possibility after his Knicks interest

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s days in Milwaukee may be numbered.

The Bucks star and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have begun talking with the team about his future with the franchise and “discussing whether his best fit is staying or a move elsewhere,” according to ESPN’s Shams Charania

Charania added that “a resolution is expected in the coming weeks.”

The report suggests that Antetokounmpo, who has played his entire NBA career with the Bucks, is seriously considering leaving Milwaukee after years of trade rumors around the two-time MVP.

One source told Charania that “‘the writing is on the wall’ on the inevitable outcome for Antetokounmpo unless there is a dramatic turn of events in the Bucks’ season,” which has gone off the rails in recent weeks.

The NBA’s trade deadline is on Feb. 5, 2026, giving Antetokounmpo and the Bucks almost exactly two months to figure out a resolution.

After starting out 4-1, the Bucks have lost 12 of their last 17 games, including eight of their last ten, which would land them outside the Eastern Conference play-in and playoff picture if the season ended today.

Several teams are expected to line up for Antetokounmpo’s services should the two sides decide a trade is best, but only one team piqued the superstar’s interest over the summer: the Knicks. And they engaged in talks with Milwaukee in August, though talks didn’t go far, The Post’s Stefan Bondy previously reported.

After beating the Knicks less than a week ago, a Post reporter asked Antetokounmpo about ESPN’s initial report concerning a possible trade to New York. Antetokounmpo replied, “I don’t remember that.”

“Right now, I’m here representing my team, and that’s it. We beat the Knicks. So it doesn’t matter,” he continued. “What matters right now is we have a game in two days … try to stay locked in and get two in a row.

“But I didn’t read that article. I try to stay away from all the rumors and speculation and trades. It doesn’t concern me one bit. I try to involve myself and I try to help my team win games.”

Antetokounmpo has been his typical MVP-like self this season, averaging 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists on 64 percent shooting, although he’s already missed six games, including four straight last month with a groin injury.
