Quentin Tarantino’s Top 20 Movies Of The 2000s: Complete List + How To Watch

Quentin Tarantino named his top 10 films of the 21st century during a recent appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. And some of his picks may surprise you.

Tarantino’s picks range from comedies to religious films, to dramas and kids movies. Without looking a single title up, the filmmaker was challenged to name the top 20 films of the 2000s, complete with colorful commentary that sheds light on how he really feels about some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

At the top of the list is Ridley Scott’s 2001 war drama Black Hawk Down. “I liked it when I first saw it, but I actually think it was so intense that it stopped working for me, and I didn’t carry it with me the way that I should’ve,” he said. “I watched it again recently, my heart was going through the entire runtime of the movie; it had me and never let me go, and I hadn’t seen it in a while. The feat of direction is beyond extraordinary.”

Among the more shocking picks include Toy Story 3, which he said he couldn’t talk too much about or else he would “start crying and get choked up,” and Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ which left him “groaning and laughing at how fucked up this was,” or Jackass: The Movie, which he said was the movie that he “laughed at the most in these last 20 years.”

But he also named Cabin Fever as his “favorite” movie from Eli Roth and threw some shade at Martin Scorsese while praising Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake.

“This is the one where Steven shows he still has it,” Tarantino said on the podcast. “I don’t think Scorsese has made a film this exciting [this century]. It revitalized him.”
