‘Troll 2’ Ending Explained: Is There Going to Be a ‘Troll 3’ Movie?
It looks like Troll 2—the sequel to the 2022 Norwegian monster movie Troll—is shaping up to be just as big a hit for Netflix as the first movie. The sequel has shot to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 Trending Movies list, just one day after it released on the streamer. And it doesn’t look like it’s going back into it’s troll hole any time soon.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, who also helmed the first film, Troll 2 is, essentially, Godzilla v. Kong, but with trolls. Even the posters look the same! Actors Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen all reprise their roles from the first film. Scientist and troll expert Nora (Wilmann) is called out of retirement when another scientist (played by newcomer Sara Khorami) captures a new troll—a Megatroll!—from the mountains. But you know trolls: They don’t stay in captivity for very long.

Like the first Troll movie, Troll 2 comes with a mid-credits scene that seems to set up more movies. So what does this mean? Is there going to be a Troll 3 movie?

Troll 2 ending explained:
After the Megatroll escapes his prison, he starts terrorizing Norway. Nora realizes that Megatroll is out for revenge against the Christian regime that drove his species into hiding. So, Nora tracks down the son of the Troll king, who she names “Beautiful.” She befriends Beautiful through her ability to speak to trolls (sure), and gets his help to stop Megatroll from destroying one of Norway’s cities.
After some trial and error, the team decides the only way to stop Megatroll is by pouring Holy Water directly into his mouth, which will destroy him from the inside out. But the Holy Water bombs must be set off manually, and that’s going to require someone to sacrifice themselves to drop it directly into Megatroll’s mouth. Andreas (Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen) volunteers as tribute. Andreas dies, but his sacrifice allows Beautiful to swoop in and finish off Megatroll for good.
In the last scene of the movie, we see that Andreas’s wife gave birth to his child, and that Nora moved into a home in the mountains, with Beautiful roaming around outside. RIP Andreas. But wait, there’s more!

Troll 2 end credits scene explained:
Yes, just like the first movie, there is a Troll 2 end credits scene. (Well, more like a mid-credits scene.) The scene finds Professor Møller (Jon Ketil Johnsen), one of the researchers from Vemork, in a dark lab talking on a cell phone to a military general. The professor informs the general he’s collected a specimen that is “developing” and to “give it some time.” We then cut to a shot to a tiny troll trapped in an a terrarium. Aww! He’s so cute!
So what does this mean? Is the professor going to sell this troll to the military to be used as a weapon? Will he grow up to be an even bigger threat than the Megatroll? Clearly, this is a set up for a Troll 3.

Is there going to be a Troll 3 movie on Netflix?
Right now, there is no official word that a Troll 3 movie is happening.
That said, clearly the filmmakers are hoping that Troll 3 will happen. It will likely depend on how well the second movie does for Netflix. It’s only been one day, but right now, it seems like the sequel is shaping up to be a hit.
When asked about a Troll 3 movie in an interview with Variety, director Roar Uthaug teased, “We’ve talked about this, and the word ‘trollogy’ does sound really good.”
The man has a great point. Netflix, you have to do this for the pun alone.
There’s at least one voice at Netflix advocating for Troll 3: Larry Tanz, Netlfix’s head of content for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“That would be a great outcome,” Tanz said of third movie, when asked by Variety. “And success begets more success.”
