Serena Williams is shifting gears.

Rightfully dubbed “one of the greatest athletes of all time,” Williams opens up in this month’s issue of Porter magazine, discussing her transition from full-time elite athlete to motherhood and the podcast she just launched with her sister, fellow tennis star and Olympian, Venus Williams.

Dressed mainly in black outfits for the photo shoot, Williams dons everything from gala-worthy backless silk dresses to a barely-there look that includes little more than a pair of tights and a leather jacket.

However, it’s the photo of the 44-year-old in a striking cutout black swimsuit that has people talking.

With her hands on her hips, legs out to the side, the athlete assumes a poolside power pose; it’s a stance more often seen in the boardroom than by the beach. But Williams makes it work.

The designer swimsuit, now available to shop, costs $990 on Net-a-Porter.

The one-piece cutout was styled with Alaïa’s square-toe pumps with a narrow block heel ($1,590) and gold and diamond By Pariah earrings ($6,500).

Williams has been candid about her body image struggles, especially after giving birth to her oldest daughter in 2017, via an emergency C-section.

This past summer, after losing more than 30 pounds, the mom of two shared that she had used a weight-loss medication to assist in achieving her goal.

“I feel great,” she told People, adding, “I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”

Speaking to Porter about her body image in relation to tennis, she explains, “It does affect you mentally. Absolutely. You think you’re large for your whole life and you look [back] and you’re like, I was fit. Yeah, I had big muscles. I didn’t look like these other girls, but not everyone looks the same.”

When asked about her retirement from the sport that made her famous, she cited her family and the freedom to use her time as her own as the driving force behind that decision.

“I want to be around my family. I’m cooking every night that I’m home. I’m home 29 nights a month,” she shared with Porter.

She continued, “I feel fortunate that I’ve had a career and that I don’t have to do what most people do. I’m very lucky. I put in the hard work, like we all are doing, but I did it a little bit earlier. So, I think that’s really working in my favor. And [now I can] just put my kids first.”

Now, in her new roles off the tennis court, she’s still striving to be the greatest of all time.
