Aaron Rodgers calls out Steelers receivers after lopsided loss to Bills

There was plenty of blame to go around following the Steeler’s lopsided home loss to the Bills on Sunday, and Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers stressed cohesion with his teammates in game planning — well, in this case, an apparent lack thereof.

“When there’s film sessions, everybody shows up, and when I check to a route, you do the right route,” Rodgers said after Buffalo trounced Pittsburgh, 26-7.

“… We have our meetings every week. We have other opportunities outside of the facility, and [I] look forward to seeing all the boys there.”

Though Rodgers, 41, did not single out specific playmakers, it’s evident the passing game needs to find its footing fast as the regular season winds down.

Rodgers, playing through multiple fractures in his left wrist, failed to connect with wide receiver Roman Wilson on a deep pass in the first half, while tight end Jonnu Smith ran outside in the red zone in the fourth quarter, despite Rodgers aiming inside, as noted by ESPN.

The quarterback said afterward that Smith, acquired in June via a trade from the Dolphins, was likely “sick” over the result.

“Jonnu and I just weren’t on the same page,” Rodgers said. “I checked to his in-breaker, and he ran an out-breaker. Jonnu is a true professional, so I’m sure he’s sick about that.”

Rodgers, playing in his first season in black and gold, completed 10 of 21 attempts for 117 yards and one lost fumble.

He also briefly exited the game in the second half after being bloodied on a Joey Bosa hit, paving the way for backup Mason Rudolph, who tossed an interception during the cameo appearance.

The Steelers held a 7-3 lead at halftime before Josh Allen and the Bills took over, with the Steelers’ defense giving up 249 rushing yards.

Unsurprisingly, the boo birds let the home team have it, particularly head coach Mike Tomlin.

“Man, I share their frustration tonight,” Tomlin said, as covered by ESPN. “We didn’t do enough, and that’s just the reality of it.

“… I know how restless and frustrated I was, and so I assume they were in the same state we were in.”

The Steelers, who started 4-1, are now 6-6 and second in the AFC North behind the Ravens (6-6).
