Daniel Jones on how Jaxson Dart can navigate new Giants normal

Daniel Jones is familiar with Jaxson Dart’s new reality.

Speaking recently to Fox News, the former Giants quarterback — who is currently enjoying a career revival with the 8-2 Colts — said he believes his successor in New York will “be all right” as he navigates a new normal without head coach Brian Daboll, who was fired Monday after three-and-a-half seasons at the helm.

“Heard great things about him and a lot of people in New York have really enjoyed working with him and playing with him. I think he’s played really well this year, and I look forward to watching him,” said Jones, who added he doesn’t “know Jaxson personally.”

“As far as advice, I think he’ll figure it out. He’s played really well. As long as he keeps working and playing like he’s playing, I’m sure he’ll be all right.”

Dart was drafted 25th overall by the Giants in April to fill the void at quarterback after the team released Jones last fall following a rocky five-plus seasons.

The sixth overall pick in 2019, Jones worked with three coaches across his time in New York, beginning with Pat Shurmur, who coached the team for two seasons.

Joe Judge replaced Shurmur in 2020 and also lasted two seasons. Daboll was brought in in 2022, arguably Jones’ best season with the Giants, which included a playoff win.

The team subsequently signed Jones, 28, to a four-year, $160 million extension, with the quarterback ultimately playing less than two seasons on the deal.

He was released by the team in November 2024 after a 2-8 start.

Jones briefly linked up with the Vikings afterward before agreeing to a one-year, $14 million pact with the Colts in free agency.

He’s thrown 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions through 10 games with the Colts.

Although Jones’ former Giants team is on track for another lost season, there is hope for the future with Dart under center.

Dart, 22, led the Giants to upset wins over the Chargers in Week 4 and the Eagles in primetime in Week 6.

Despite the flashes shown by Dart — 10 touchdowns against three interceptions through nine games — the Giants fumbled double-digit leads away in four road games, falling to 2-8 on the season.

Daboll was fired in the wake of the Giants’ latest fourth-quarter collapse, a 24-20 loss to the Bears in Chicago on Sunday, during which Dart exited the game early with a concussion.

Mike Kafka, the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, was named interim head coach.

Jameis Winston was promoted to the No. 2 quarterback over Wilson and will start Sunday against the Packers with Dart in concussion protocol.
