Kelly Ripa Dishes About Her “Personal Generational Family Recipe” Ahead of Thanksgiving—And You Gotta “Get The Can Opener” Out For It
Kelly Ripa continues to give us relatable content, and just in time for Thanksgiving, no less.
She and Mark Consuelos welcomed Landman star Billy Bob Thornton and Jingle Bell Heist star Olivia Holt on Thursday’s Live with Kelly and Mark. But before they sat down with the two actors, they started off their host chat by talking about Turkey Day, which is just two weeks away, as Ripa read that “generations-old recipes still rule the Thanksgiving table.”

“Good,” Consuelos replied.
Ripa then teased her own “personal generational family recipe” for the upcoming holiday—which is a common staple for the family feast across the country,
“You get the can opener,” she joked, immediately eliciting laughter from the studio audience. “You open that can of cranberry sauce and you slither it out onto the little serving tray and then you slice it along the can lines. Generations!”
Consuelos asked, “Along the can lines? What do you mean?”
As Ripa explained of the Thanksgiving staple, “the gelatinous cranberry jelly takes on the form of the can.” After she and Consuelos likened the shape of canned cranberry sauce to “a loaf,” Ripa noted that “when it slides out, you just slice along the can lines.”

“And that’s how you get it so symmetrical,” she added with a chef’s kiss.
“Passed down by generations,” Consuelos echoed.
Ripa quipped, “Passed down—from mother to daughter.”
Consuelos said with a chuckle, “I like it.”
