Brian Jordan Alvarez Comedy ‘English Teacher’ Canceled After 2 Seasons
FX has canceled the workplace comedy English Teacher, created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, after the show enjoyed a critically acclaimed debut and a controversial Season 2 renewal.
The comedy series starred Alvarez as an English teacher working at a Texas high school, where he navigates the complicated dynamics of adolescence and political correctness alongside his eccentric coworkers. Alvarez’s frequent collaborator Stephanie Koenig also starred in the series, as well as Sean Patton, Carmen Christopher, Enrico Colantoni and Jordan Firstman.

English Teacher became an instant hit when it premiered on FX and Hulu in fall 2024. But its triumphant debut was soon overshadowed by a bombshell report from Vulture that alleged Alvarez sexually assaulted a former co-star on multiple occasions while filming the web series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo.
A spokesperson for Alvarez denied the claims at the time in a statement to Decider, claiming Alvarez’s interactions with his co-star Jon Ebeling were “always entirely consensual – as numerous witnesses have attested.”
Despite the allegations, FX renewed the show for another season in early 2025. FX Entertainment President Nick Grad praised the series in a press release that largely ignored the allegations.

“English Teacher was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show’s creative excellence. We look forward to the new season,” Grad said.
FX also addressed the controversy, noting, “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time,” per Variety.
Season 2 premiered to little to no fanfare with a binge release in September 2025, a noticeable difference from the weekly release model it had for its debut.
