“It’s like the old Kelly is back again. She has been dearly missed,” an anonymous staffer told the Daily Mail in an article published Wednesday.
The insider claimed that the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host, 43, is “much more talkative again.”
“She’ll stop by our desks and make conversation, ask about family members, gossip and make jokes,” the insider shared.
The staffer recalled Kelly’s out-of-character behavior just a few months ago, noting that morale was low for show employees.
“It was just such a difference from how she had been before,” the staffer said. “It was hard for people to not take it personally. Like what did we do to suddenly be ignored like this?”
After Clarkson’s unexplained absence from the show in March due to a mysterious “family emergency,” there were even rumors swirling that she was going to be replaced by Hoda Kotb,” the source said.
“So we were all looking for other jobs. We forwarded job postings to each other, networked for each other. A lot of people were ready to bolt,” the source said. “No disrespect to Hoda, but we didn’t know what was happening or if there would even be a job for us.”
In August, Clarkson left fans dissapointed when she cancelled the remaining shows in her Las Vegas residency, with the pop star sharing that her ex-husband Brandon Blackston was ill. (Clarkson and Blackstock finalized their divorce in 2022 after a two year custody battle over their two kids: River Rose, 11, and Remy, 9. They tied the knot in 2013.)
Staffers finally understood Clarkson’s character shift when news broke on Aug. 7 that Blackstock had died at the age of 48 after a secret two-year battle with cancer.
“Suddenly, it was all clear to everyone,” the staffer said. “And boy, did we feel like s–t. We judged Kelly too soon. We didn’t see what she was going through. We made it all about us.”
The source added, “It just goes to show that you should never jump to conclusions. You just never know.”
Page Six exclusively reported in August that Clarkson helped take care of her ex during his battle with Melanoma.
She made an emotional return to her eponymous talk show in September, though she did not directly address Blackstock’s passing.
Page Six has reached out to reps for Clarkson and NBC for comment.
