Feds probing bloody riots at UC Berkeley Turning Point USA event, blaming Antifa for violence

The Department of Justice and FBI are investigating Monday’s bloody riots at a Turning Point USA event at UC Berkeley, which authorities said Antifa protesters turned into a war zone.

“Antifa is an existential threat to our nation,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X Monday afternoon.
“The violent riots at UC Berkeley last night are under full investigation by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force. We will continue to spare no expense unmasking all who commit and orchestrate acts of political violence,” she vowed.

The sold-out event at the ultra-liberal Bay Area campus, held two months to the day since TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated, drew scores of keffiyeh-clad demonstrators who lobbed smoke bombs, bottles, and set off fireworks attempting to disrupt the tour stop.

“Antifa is breaking through police barricades and threatening our event attendees,” TPUSA Chief of Staff Mikey McCoy wrote on X as the chaos unfolded.

Organizers said some 900 attendees packed the university’s Zellerbach Hall for the “This Is the Turning Point” event, hosted by author Frank Turek and comedian Rob Schneider.

The tour was rebranded from its original name, “The American Comeback Tour,” after Kirk’s shocking murder, and is continuing in his honor.

At least three people were arrested, including a numbskull named “Jihad” who caught an assault and robbery rap after allegedly snatching the chain necklace of an attendee, leaving him bloodied in the ensuing fracas.

“Mob assault and thuggish intimidation of attendees exercising their First Amendment rights are unacceptable,” the DOJ’s Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon wrote in an X post.
“The [Civil Rights Division] under [AG Pam Bondi] is initiating a full investigation into the potential failures at UC Berkeley and any who enabled such violence.”

Attached to the post was a copy of a letter she penned to UC Berkeley President James Milliken and the University of California Board of Regents requesting they preserve “all records … relevant to the school’s preparation, execution, and response” to the TPUSA event.

“We are also determining whether recent events provide a basis for additional investigation of violations of federal rights, including, without limitation, violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the US Constitution.”
