James Van Der Beek selling ‘Dawson’s Creek’ merch to help pay for cancer costs

James Van Der Beek is saying goodbye to pieces of his “Dawson’s Creek” past.

The actor, 48, is selling memorabilia from the beloved teen drama series to help pay for his cancer treatments. Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer last year.

According to People, Van Der Beek is teaming with Propstore to give fans the chance to buy the items in the Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, taking place Dec. 5 to Dec. 7.

All proceeds from the sales will go to Van Der Beek for financial support amidst his cancer battle.

The items up for sale include the necklace Dawson (Van Der Beek) gifted Joey (Katie Holmes) for prom, estimated to cost around $26,400 to $52,800, and Dawson’s outfit from the pilot episode, which is worth around $4,000.

Van Der Beek is also selling his cleats and West Caana Coyotes Hat from his 1999 film “Varsity Blues.”

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” the actor told People.

He continued, “While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

Van Der Beek starred in “Dawson’s Creek” from 1998 to 2003 alongside Holmes, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson.

In September, Van Der Beek had to miss the “Dawson’s Creek” reunion due to a stomach illness.

The rest of the cast got together at Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City for a live table reading of the show’s 1998 pilot episode. The event benefitted F Cancer and Van Der Beek himself.

“Despite every effort… I won’t get to be there,” Van Der Beek said in an Instagram statement. “I won’t get to stand on that stage and thank every soul in the theater for showing up for me, and against cancer, when I needed it most.”

“Hamilton” star Lin-Manuel Miranda took Van Der Beek’s place in the table read.

While he wasn’t there in-person, Van Der Beek did record a video message for the reunion. His wife, Kimberly, attended the event with the couple’s six children and joined the cast onstage to sing the show’s theme song, Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want To Wait.”

Van Der Beek announced his cancer diagnosis last November.

In July, Van Der Beek told Today.com that living with cancer feels like a “full-time job” and that “it’ll probably be a process for the rest of my life.”

The father of six also said that he’s been honest with his kids about his health battle.

“They know. They can sense that Dad’s having a tough day. They know if Dad’s in pain,” he shared. “By not telling them, I think you’re confusing them even more.”
