The tricky timing of QB switch

The Jets beat the Browns 27-20 on Sunday, winning their second straight game. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:
1. The Jets can’t make a quarterback change this week. They won’t even have a real practice before playing the Patriots on Thursday. But heading into next week against the Ravens, it’s time for Aaron Glenn to make the switch to Tyrod Taylor. I think Glenn was ready to do it before the Bengals game but Taylor’s knee did not cooperate and he was inactive. Fields had a good game in Cincinnati but I think it’s clear the Bengals have the worst defense in the NFL and that played a big role in Fields’ performance that day.

On Sunday, the Jets passing offense was non-existent. Fields threw for 54 yards and 42 of those came on the screen pass touchdown to Breece Hall. Fields barely pushed it down the field and never looked comfortable. The Jets are not even getting much from Fields in the running game. He had 28 rushing yards on seven carries on Sunday and very little of that came on designed runs.
I don’t think Taylor is going to be some savior for the offense but he is a veteran who has had success in the NFL. It’s worth giving him a look to see if you can get more out of the offense. The Jets need to figure out which receivers are part of the future of this team. It’s hard to evaluate them with the poor quarterback play right now.
