“I think it is very individual and sort of moment-dependent as to how you deal with those problems,” William said in an interview shared via Instagram over the weekend.

He and Middleton “chose to communicate a lot more” with their little ones, William recalled during the sit-down.

“That has its good things and its bad things,” the prince, 43, explained. “Sometimes you feel you’re oversharing with the children [things] you probably shouldn’t.”

However, he clarified, “Most of the time, hiding stuff from them doesn’t work. … There [are] a lot more questions when there [are] no answers.”

William and Middleton, 43, were candid with their kids about “everything,” including “the good news and the bad,” in order to make them less “anxious.”

He remembered, “It is always a balancing act — every parent knows that. It’s, ‘How much do I say? What do I say? When do I say?’

“There’s no manual for being a parent,” the future king continued. “You’ve just got to go with it — a bit of instinct.”

Middleton went public with her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, two months after she was hospitalized for abdominal surgery and stepped back from her royal duties.

At the time, the Princess of Wales spoke about communicating the news to George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, in an “appropriate” way.

She told them, “I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirits.”

Middleton noted that her delay in sharing her health update with the world had to do with “process[ing] and manag[ing]” the news “privately” with her family.

In September 2024, the three-time mom finished her “incredibly tough” cancer treatment.

Middleton announced the following January that she is in remission and “remain[s] focused on recovery” while adjusting to her “new normal.”
