The couple had been in a relationship since March and social media posts show that they got engaged in July, months before Trantalis filed for a domestic violence injunction against Curran in September.

A brawl broke out between the two men in front of Trantalis’ home on Nov. 1, when Curran allegedly pushed his ex-lover as the mayor fought back, according to NBC South Florida, citing court records.

Curan grabbed the mayor and brought him to the ground, dragging him 15 feet across the street, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet.

Trantalis suffered injuries to his wrist, leg and knee during the skirmish.

Police arrested Curran on Wednesday after he returned to Trantalis’ home, in violation of the injunction. He was charged with battery on a person 65 or older and contempt of court, violating an injuction, according to court records.

In his filing for the domestic violence injunction, the three-term mayor accused Curran of throwing things, pulling knives on him and kicking furniture, demanding Trantalis leave the home, the outlet reported.

“I truly fear deadly physical harm,” Trantalis wrote.

The injunction was set to expire on Dec. 3.

“I was able to secure an injunction for domestic violence a couple of months ago. I thought maybe there was some way to rehabilitate Danny, by trying to reconnect and hopefully steer him into counseling and mental health treatment, and I failed at that,” Trantalis said during his testimony at Curran’s bond hearing.

“At the end ― this past weekend, he threw me to the ground. He committed everything that’s in the information, with regard to the violent act against me. And then I realized that there was no hope for this relationship,” Trantalis explained.

The septuagenarian called the case “a very complicated situation.”

During his testimony, Trantalis requested a no-contact order on Curran, only allowing his ex to return to his home to get his belongings with police presence.

“He has exhibited extreme violence and I cannot have him in my life anymore,” he said.

Curran was handed a $6,000 bond, and a judge granted the no-contact request.

He is prohibited from having firearms, weapons or ammunition.

Curran sprinted out of jail Friday night, after bonding out, professing his love for Trantalis.

“I love him,” he told WSVN. “No matter what. I always have and will love him.”

Curran bombarded his Instagram account — where he named himself “Danny Trantalis” — with several posts of himself with Trantalis over the last week, without mentioning his legal issues.

In one post from Sept. 3, the self-described “First Gentleman” of Fort Lauderdale announced his engagement to Trantalis as the couple stood underneath the Eiffel Tower, with the caption “wishes come true #engaged.”

Trantalis has served as mayor of Fort Lauderdale since 2018, becoming the first openly gay mayor of the city.

He is ineligible for reelection in 2028, having served his three four-year terms.

Before his mayoralty, Trantalis served five years as the city commissioner for Fort Lauderdale between 2013 and 2018.

He has been a member of both his native Connecticut and Florida State Bar Associations since 1980 and runs his own general law practice specializing in real estate, probate, estate planning, bankruptcy, and corporate matters, according to the city’s website.
