Woman, 27, fatally struck by wrong-way NYC driver ID’d as transplant from Massachusetts planning wedding

The 27-year-old woman fatally struck by a wrong-way driver in Greenwich Village this week has been identified as a transplant from Massachusetts who was planning to get married next year.
Valerie Schoeck – originally from Cambridge but living in the West Village – was crossing Morton Street at the Seventh Avenue South intersection just after 8:30 a.m. when a driver in a black van rammed into her, authorities and sources said.

She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but ultimately could not be saved, cops said.
Schoeck was preparing to get married next summer, according to a woman named Carol who identified herself as her fiancé’s aunt.
“The woman killed is my nephew’s fiancé,” Carol commented on a 1010 WINS TikTok post about the deadly crash. “We are all shocked and desperately saddened and in disbelief. Her name is Valerie. She was to be married in June. There are no words to describe the grief. She was an extraordinary gorgeous young lady. Thank you for your prayers.”
Schoeck’s fiancé, Ross Barlow, declined to speak to a reporter who visited Valerie’s apartment Friday afternoon.
At the time of the crash, the 61-year-old driver was spotted driving a 2020 GMC Savana van with New Jersey plates westbound on Morton Street, which is eastbound-only, cops said.
But he remained at the scene and had not been charged by Friday, authorities said.
