Mamdani’s bitter victory speech: Letters

The Issue: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s blunt victory speech, which failed to reach out to all voters.

Michael Goodwin is right to call Zohran Mamdani’s speech that of a “sore winner” — the petulant, vicious whine of an ungrateful, spoiled brat (“Finally we see the Mam behind the grin,” Nov. 6).

He is incapable of any non-ideological thoughts, or even a modicum of political decency when the occasion warrants it.

Mamdani’s triumph is a sad day for New York City and America. Especially for those who hold close to their hearts the Jewish philosopher Emil Fackenheim’s notion — “the 614th mitzvah” — that Hitler should never be accorded a posthumous victory.

Winners like Mamdani have now employed a new talking point for speeches: President Trump and how they’re going to go after him.

It sure sounds like that’s their way of bringing the country back together again. R.I.P., NYC.

The Post says Mamdani was quick to be negative toward his opponents soon after being elected.

Did you forget about Trump’s inauguration speech, when he also said negative things about the previous administration?

Raymond Mangano

Brooklyn

If anyone retained any illusions about the tone and substance of Mamdani’s plans for New York City, he put those to rest in his victory speech.

Eschewing any unifying comments toward those who didn’t vote for him, Mamdani spoke in the classic communist patois of class warfare and free services, for which he identified no means of payment.

He offered not one word of outreach to those who said they’d flee if he won and a mere one sentence to the largest municipal Jewish population in the United States, now plagued by violent antisemitism.

Goodwin’s wrong to claim Mamdani just dropped his mask — his true colors were always there. I have repeatedly said the man is poison but no one was reading between his lines.

Unfortunately, those who saw the horror will suffer along with the gullibles who voted for him.

Thank you, New York City; your decision to elect someone like Zohran Mamdani has set in motion the basis for real entertainment for the rest of the country.

As he attempts to fulfill his promises, we’ll be witnessing the collapse of your great city.

The Issue: Tucker Carlson inviting white-nationalist Nick Fuentes on the “Tucker Carlson Show.”

Fox News did us a great service when it removed Tucker Carlson from its airways in 2023 (“Tucker & The ‘Toad,’ ” Rich Lowry, Nov. 4).

After being removed from cable news and joining the universe of podcasting, he has degenerated into a paranoid conspiracy theorist and antisemite by hosting people like Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens.

There were signs on Fox News that Carlson was going toward the deep end when he hosted Kanye West, a mental case and antisemite.

I guess Carlson has taken this track to stand-out in the jungle of podcasters.

Mark Seitelman

Manhattan

I always suspected that Tucker Carlson’s corny outbursts of laughter signaled something was amiss with his mind, and now his pernicious platforming of an alt-right neo-Nazi like Nick Fuentes has confirmed my suspicions.

Carlson has creepily shown he’s a liability to the conservative movement. His disingenuous “free-speech gadfly” posturing is nothing but intellectual poison.
