Colleen Dunn thought the salmon shark that was suffocating in a low tide was a baby great white at first, she shared with the Associated Press.

Dunn called her husband at an office at Nehalem Bay State Park in Tillamook County, Oregon, to ask for advice.
When her husband didn’t respond, she decided to act on her own.
“I was essentially nervous about touching it at all,” Dunn said Wednesday. “I have three kids, so I didn’t wanna put myself in a dangerous position.”
Her dogs waited patiently as she grabbed the three-foot shark by its tail and brought it into deeper water while she recorded a video on her phone.
Once in a higher tide, the shark was able to get water through its gills again and swam out of view.

Dunn said that she posted about the scary moment in a local social media group last month, and nobody reported the shark washing back up on shore.
Having lived in Hawaii, she felt a sense of belonging near the shark-filled water.
“I’ve lived in other places across the Pacific, and the ocean has always been my grounding place,” Dunn said.
“Being engaged with it, watching the tides, noticing the wildlife, even stepping in when a creature needs help, keeps me present and humble.”
Dunn and her family recently moved to Manzanita, Oregon, near the park where she saw the shark.
