What Giants scout Scott Hamel knew he had to get right when it came to Jaxson Dart



The Post has been granted unprecedented access into the world of the Giants scouting department. In Part 2 of this continuing series, we meet Scott Hamel, the area scout who played a big role in the evaluation process that brought Jaxson Dart to the Giants.

Hamel, 41, is in his fourth year with the Giants after spending seven years with the Bears. He was an all-state running back at Rye High School in Westchester County and a walk-on running back/fullback at Michigan. As a college area scout, his states to cover are Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

General manager Joe Schoen on Hamel: “Another really good evaluator. He’s in probably the most important area, if you had to rank the areas, there’s a lot of players drafted out of his area, being in the Southeast. You really got to trust your scouts down in that area not only from an evaluation but the background and having contacts at the schools and sometimes it can be difficult at those big schools with the amount of talent that they have.”
