Plane crashes at Louisville airport prompting shelter-in-place order
A UPS plane crashed near Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport in a fiery wreck Tuesday evening, officials confirmed as a plume of smoke could be seen for miles.
Multiple emergency crews, including the Louisville Metro Police Department, responded to the crash site around 5 p.m., where authorities warned there was “fire and debris.”

A shelter-in-place order was issued within the hour “for all locations within 5 miles of the airport,” the LMPD posted on X.

Injuries were reported, but the exact nature or how many passengers were on board the aircraft is unclear, police added.
The airport closed the entire airfield after the crash, it announced on X.
UPS also confirmed that the plane involved in the crash was one of theirs.
One cargo plane with UPS was set to take off from the Kentucky airport at 5:02 p.m., according to a FlightAware tracker. It’s unclear if this is the same aircraft that crashed near the airport.
