A woman is taking issue with her boyfriend’s height — specifically when they go out in public together.
In a post on the U.K.-based forum Mumsnet, the anonymous woman wrote, “My boyfriend is very short, really short, about 4 [inches] shorter than me, and I’m not exceptionally tall.”
Detailing that her partner “is perfect for me, and he loves me in a way that makes me feel secure like no one else ever has,” the woman continued, however, “His height doesn’t bother me when we’re alone together, but in public or with friends, it is all a bit uncomfortable.”
“He likes to show affection and will put an arm around my shoulders or hold my hand, and it all feels a bit awkward, because he can’t reach, or it feels like holding a child’s hand,” the Mumsnet user added, further explaining, “Even a quick peck is weird because he can’t really reach.”
As she also stated that the height difference is fine when she and her boyfriend are “alone together on the sofa, or in bed,” the woman then asked: “What’s the solution?”

In response, other Mumsnet users shared advice for the woman tied to the height difference dilemma in her relationship.
“The solution is you either accept him as he is, or finish it and find someone taller,” one user wrote, as another stated, “Leave him and find someone you’re comfortable with outside of the house.”
“Just learn to handle the public displays of affection (if you are otherwise okay with them anyway) the same way tall men and short women do,” added one more commenter.

Others, meanwhile, shared their own personal experiences with differing heights in a romantic relationship, with one user writing, “I get you. I prefer tall men myself. I have dated short men before, but it’s not my preference.”
Said one more: “I went through a run of short men in my late 20s and early 30s. I’m 5.8. … One or two of mine were really short, but … it did make me feel weird. Shouldn’t have, but did.”
