Elderly woman found dead after NYC house fire: cops



An elderly woman was found dead after a fire ripped through a Queens home Monday morning and took more than an hour to extinguish, according to authorities.

The senior citizen, 85, was found on the first floor unconscious and unresponsive inside the home in the College Point neighborhood and was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

Firefighters initially reached the scene around 5:15 a.m. along 26th Avenue, and spent more than an hour putting out the first-floor blaze, the FDNY said, according to reports.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The elderly victim’s name has not been released, pending family notification.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
