Cam Skattebo has ‘long road’ after emergency ankle surgery is a success
Cam Skattebo’s emergency ankle surgery was a success Sunday night and he could be released from the Philadelphia-area hospital as soon as Monday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said.
Daboll and Skattebo exchanged text messages late Sunday night and as early as 4:08 a.m. Monday.

“All went well, he is recovering and obviously he’ll be missed,” Daboll said while declining to address any specifics of the injury. “He’s got a long road ahead of him.”
The Giants’ rookie running back suffered a season-ending ankle dislocation, according to the team, and video of the injury suggested to sports medical professionals who have not examined Skattebo that an open fracture could be involved as well.
The expectation is that he should be ready to go for the start of next season if recovery setbacks are avoided.

Daboll described Skattebo as “a guy that has come in and sparked us with a lot of energy and toughness.” He also has scored a team-leading seven touchdowns.
“He’s an infectious personality,” Daboll said. “That’s Skatto. (Spirits) are good – as good as can be through text. You feel for your players when they go down like that.”
