Jets takeaways, report card from NFL Week 7 loss to Panthers

Grading the Jets’ 13-6 loss to the Panthers on Sunday:

1. ESPN had a staggering stat off this game. The Jets are the second team in the past decade to hold back-to-back opponents to 13 points for fewer and lose both games, joining the 2023 Patriots. The Jets defense has played well the past two weeks and their effort has been completely wasted by an offense that can’t get into the end zone. The Jets have now failed to score a touchdown in the past two games. They have not scored a first-half touchdown since Week 1.

How many games will the Jets defense play this well? Probably not many and they just wasted two good games. This is a risky situation, too. For five weeks both sides of the ball had issues but now it is on one side and at some point the defense is going to start pointing fingers at the offense. That is the way locker rooms work.

2. The offensive line was supposed to be one of the strengths of this team. It looks terrible right now. The Jets gave up six sacks to the Panthers, a team that entered the game with five in its first six games. This comes after allowing nine sacks to the Broncos and five to the Cowboys. The quarterback play has been abysmal, but the line is not helping.
