“This is how I work personally, but [when] something great happens in my life, I expect something bad to happen,” she told the audience.
Gomez, 33, admitted that her mind always goes to the worst possible scenario — even when something positive happens.
“So instead of being present and saying, ‘OK, wow, we’ve done a great thing,’ which I do, I’m always thinking, ‘OK, but this could all go away tomorrow, so how can I make sure that doesn’t happen?’” she said.
Gomez said that grappling with this mindset is her “biggest conflict” when she experiences something “wonderful.”
“I got married and then I was sobbing because I was like, ‘I’m gonna die the next day,’” she explained. “I just think that’s a little life thing.”
The “Only Murders in the Building” star married Blanco, 37, in a beautiful ceremony at Sea Crest Nursery in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sept. 27.
The bride — who has been candid about her mental health struggles — walked down the aisle in a custom lace Ralph Lauren gown while the groom said “I do” in a tuxedo of the same designer.
He also sparkled in a diamond watch estimated to be worth $1 million.
Throughout the evening, Gomez wore two other dresses by the fashion house — opting for a draped satin gown ahead of the ceremony and a tea-length dress for the reception.
Several of the couple’s A-list friends attended their nuptials, including Taylor Swift, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Paul Rudd.
Swift, 35, even delivered a speech at the reception — razzing the former Disney star for her 2000s fashion choices.
Gomez and the music producer confirmed their relationship in December 2023.
A year later, Blanco proposed to the Rare Beauty founder with a marquise diamond ring — a call back to the 2015 song they collaborated on, “Good For You,” in which Gomez sings, “I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous.”
Last week, Gomez hinted that she and Blanco were ready to become parents. She previously revealed that she can’t carry her own children due to medical issues, but is open to other options.
