The actress, 56, got candid on relationships while on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday.
“Do you think you’ve truly been loved?” the radio host, 71, asked Lopez. The singer paused and responded, “No,” before adding that she has truly loved someone else.
“What I learned, it’s not that I’m not lovable — it’s that they’re not capable. … They don’t have it in them,” expressed Lopez. “And they gave me what they had. They gave me all of it, every time. All the rings, all the things I could ever want. The houses, the rings, the marriage. All of it. But….”
The star did admit that “I didn’t love myself” sometimes.
Lopez was married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 and Ben Affleck from 2022 to 2024.
The dancer dated Alex Rodriguez from 2017 to 2019 before getting engaged. By 2021, the pair called it quits.
The artist shares 17-year-old twins Max and Emme, with Anthony, 57.
Lopez revealed that splitting from Affleck, 53, sent her on a spiritual journey.
“When I got divorced this last time, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Because it really made me journey into — I mean, I had a religious coach, I had a therapist, a couple’s therapist, an individual therapist, I had a coach to understand addiction. I had everything. I was like, ‘I’m gonna f—in’ figure this s— out if it kills me.’ “
She realized “core of the thing is you — it’s nobody else.”
“Now I’m able to sit here in a much more self-assured, self-aware way of the things that have happened to me, whether my mother, my father, in my own life, how I learned to love, how I felt neglected — all the things that are in your head as a person — and know who I am and just really appreciate that person,” Lopez shared. “[I] feel really comfortable and good in being myself, all the good parts and all the kind of complicated things.”
Stern then inquired, “But you haven’t had that with someone?” to which Lopez responded: “Glimpses.”
“I wish that for you,” he quipped to which she thanked him.
Affleck and Lopez recently reunited on the red carpet for the new movie “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which the actor produced.
In March, Affleck told GQ Lopez is “somebody I have a lot of respect for” and explained there was “no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” that caused their split.
“There’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly … the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting,” he elaborated. “It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in Aug. 2024 after two years of marriage.
At the time, the beauty founder’s twins helped her through the tough year.
“I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’ I promised them that and I did it,” she told the Spanish paper El País in May.
Lopez added, “And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”
