George Cheeks of CBS asks $7.95M for his NYC penthouse

As CBS News undergoes a seismic editorial shift, one of its top executives is quietly preparing for a change of his own — on the real estate front.

George Cheeks, the president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer for news and sports at Paramount+, has listed his palatial New York City penthouse for $7.95 million, The Post has learned.

Cheeks is selling the home alongside his partner, Laurence Hausman, as the couple looks to spend more time on the West Coast and abroad.

The two purchased the home back in November 2019 for $7.25 million, records show.

The listing arrives just in the wake of CBS announcing it had tapped Bari Weiss, founder of the news platform “The Free Press,” as the new editor-in-chief of CBS News following its $150 million acquisition by Paramount.

The penthouse — unit PHD at Stella Tower, a landmark Art Deco building in Midtown West — offers approximately 3,455 square feet of reimagined interiors, plus another 1,070 square feet across three private terraces.

According to Joshua Judge, the broker at Sotheby’s International Realty repping this listing, the sprawling residence is “just too much space” for a couple rarely in town.

“So his partner retired, and they’re spending more time in LA,” Judge told The Post.

“They’re also purchasing other real estate in other countries as well. They’re figuring out what the New York move is. But it’s just too much space. The reality is just too much space for them who are never here.”

The apartment was originally configured as a four-bedroom but was converted to a three-bedroom to maximize living space.

The conversion, Judge said, “leads to oversize living, which includes a huge, sprawling great room now,” adding “there is a massive amount of outdoor space.”

Inside, the property delivers on every front.

The chef’s kitchen was fully reimagined by NY Loft and features a suite of high-end appliances including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, Wolf double ovens, a Bosch dishwasher and a Miele induction cooktop.

One of the terraces even includes an Everdure 4K Electric Grill by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.

Beyond the kitchen, the interiors are anchored by handcrafted details and dramatic proportions: think 8-foot oak doors, tilt-and-turn windows framing protected skyline views, hand-laid oak floors, radiant-heated marble bathroom floors and a fireplace that grounds the expansive great room.

The primary suite is gallery-like in layout, featuring dual walk-in closets and a bathroom clad in chevron-patterned Black Zeus marble with a soaking tub and steam shower.

But location and pedigree may be the real headliners.

The penthouse crowns Stella Tower, a 1927 structure designed by legendary architect Ralph Walker.

Originally home to the New York Telephone Company, the building was restored by JDS Development and now functions as a white-glove condominium complete with a 24-hour attended lobby, a fitness center, a residents’ lounge, a landscaped garden and bike storage.

“It has protected city views in every direction because it’s all part of Clinton Historic District and it’s the tallest building in the area,” Judge said. “And it’s a landmark — it towers over all the other buildings in the area. It is the sister building to the Walker Tower,” he added of the highly acclaimed Ralph Walker-tower on West 18th Street whose A-list residents include Cameron Diaz.

Its artistic and cultural cachet is matched by the building’s clientele.

“The other penthouse next door was … sold by Trevor Noah,” said Judge, referencing the comedian and former host of The Daily Show who sold his home there in 2023.

“It’s kind of like a destination building for the area,” Judge added.
