Mike Love gets emotional during tribute to Brian Wilson

Beach Boys singer and co-founder Mike Love fought back tears over the weekend as he paid tribute to late bandmate Brian Wilson, who passed away in June at the age of 82.

“We want you to see this,” Love, 84, told the audience during a show at the Meritage Resort in Napa, California, on Sunday, per Daily Mail.

“We lost Brian earlier this year, but he will always be in our hearts,” the “Good Vibrations” singer continued as a photo montage of Wilson played across the screen. “It’s like he’s still here.”

Love and his band then went on to play several Beach Boys hits during the concert, including “California Girls,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “God Only Knows.”

Wilson passed away on June 11 following a battle with dementia. His cause of death was later revealed to be from respiratory arrest, as well as sepsis and cystitis.

He was laid to rest two months later.

“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away,” his family announced on Instagram. “We are at a loss for words right now.”

“Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving,” they added. “We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.”

Love, meanwhile, reflected on his relationship with his late bandmate and cousin during the 2025 Songwriters’ Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which was held just one day after Wilson’s passing.

“Well, I think what it is is Brian’s with us tonight. I can feel his presence,” the “Kokomo” singer told People at the time.

“You know, we co-created these great songs together, and so we’re inseparable really in life and afterlife too, so I do really feel his presence and, yeah, I’ve known him all his life,” he added. “I’m one year older.”

The “I Get Around” crooner remembered Wilson in a lengthy Instagram post as well, which he shared alongside old home movies and footage of the band performing from back in the ’60s and ’70s.

“Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys – he was the soul of our sound,” Love wrote in part. “From the first time we sang together as kids in my living room, I knew there was something otherworldly in him. His musical gifts were unmatched.”

The Beach Boys’ surviving members, including Love, Al Jardine, 83, and Bruce Johnston, 83, also paid tribute to Wilson with a touching statement shared to the band’s official Instagram page.

Dennis and Carl Wilson, Brian Wilson’s brothers, passed away in 1983 and 1998, respectively.

“We will continue to cherish the timeless music we made together and the joy he brought to millions over the decades,” they wrote in the wake of Wilson’s passing.

“And while we will miss him deeply, his legacy will live on through his songs and in our memories,” they concluded. “Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and his loved ones during this difficult time.”
