At least 4 killed, 12 hurt in Mississippi shooting after homecoming football game



Four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured when gunfire erupted in the wake of a Mississippi homecoming football game Friday night, officials said.

The shooting occurred around midnight Saturday on a main street in the small town of Leland, Mayor John Lee told CBS News.

Four of the wounded were airlifted to nearby hospitals, including Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, though officials could not disclose the status of their injuries.

No suspects have been identified or taken into custody.

According to Lee, the tragedy took place in the midst of the town’s homecoming celebrations.

The Leland High School community had celebrated its homecoming football game earlier in the day at 7 p.m., local reports state.

Leland, in Washington County, has a population of about 3,500 people.
