Ravens acquire Alohi Gilman from Chargers for Odafe Oweh

The Harbaugh brothers made a swap.

The Ravens traded linebacker Odafe Oweh and a seventh-round draft pick in 2027 to the Chargers in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick, according to multiple reports.

It’s been tough sledding for head coach John Harbaugh and the Ravens, who dropped to 1-4 with Sunday’s disastrous 44-10 home loss to the Texans after Cooper Rush started at quarterback in place of the injured Lamar Jackson.

So he turned to brother Jim and his Chargers team for some help.

In Gilman, the Ravens are getting a sixth-year defensive back who ranks 56th out of 134 safeties on Pro Football Focus this season.

Baltimore’s pass defense has been particularly porous early this year, ranking second to last in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (262.6). In an injury to insult, safety Kyle Hamilton missed Sunday’s loss with a groin injury.

Earlier Tuesday, in an effort to stabilize the defense, the Ravens signed safety CJ Gardner-Johnson to their practice squad two weeks after he was released by the Texans.

“Obviously, we got beat in every way you can get beat,” John Harbaugh said after the blowout defeat to Houston. “Just a complete disappointment.”

In his career, Gilman has five interceptions and 252 tackles. He’ll be a free agent after this season.

On the other side of the trade, the Chargers and coach Jim Harbaugh are 3-2 and sit tied atop the AFC West standings. They bring in an edge rusher in Oweh, who had a career-high 10 sacks last season for the Ravens.

This year, he’s been quiet with just 10 tackles and no sacks through five games (two starts).
