‘The View’s Joy Behar Suggests Trump’s Plans To Invoke The Insurrection Act Is A “Pretext To Stop The Next Election”

Following President Donald Trump‘s threats to invoke the Insurrection Act, The View co-host Joy Behar thinks he has more sinister plans in mind.

On Monday (Oct. 6), Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that his administration would consider using the Insurrection Act to deploy the National Guard to states to protect federal buildings, per Politico. Just one day earlier, a federal judge blocked the POTUS from sending the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, while the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago filed a lawsuit to prevent him from doing the same thing to them.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, who worked under the United States Department of Defense amid Trump’s first term in the White House, pushed back at her former boss, claiming that cities in duress need more funding, police training, and willingness from the administration to work with local officials, rather than the National Guard. Behar, however, had a more bleak outlook on Trump’s desire to send the military to U.S. states and cities.

“This is a pretext to stop the next election,” she said on this morning’s episode of The View, while Sara Haines thought it could be a “distraction” from the ongoing hearings about the Epstein files.

“This is in order to make the case because in all of their minds, they now believe they have carte blanche to do whatever they want to,” Whoopi Goldberg added, while Behar chimed in, “And if they stop us from voting, that’s the one thing people have.”

Goldberg reminded viewers that “our votes do count,” prompting Behar to mutter, “If we’re allowed to vote.”

The longtime moderator, however, offered her comedic co-host a more optimistic view of the future.

“I think people will figure out how to vote,” Goldberg said. “One thing I believe I know about Americans is they don’t want to be told what to do. You can suggest some stuff. But they don’t want you saying, ‘You got to go over here and do this.’ They don’t want a dictatorship.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
